My beloved child Break your heart no longer Each time you judge yourself You break your own heart You stop feeding on the love Which is the wellspring Of your vitality. The time has come. Your time. To live, to celebrate And to see that goodness that you are. You are, my child, Divine. You are pure You are sublimely free You are god in disguise. Let go and breathe into the goodness That you are. ~Swami Shri Kripalvanandji |
My psychotherapy practice is full, both individual and group. Check back in the fall! You can expect our work regardless of your focus to have a predictable process. During our first session, we will collaborate to take an inventory of your life and identify what project we will start with. We will be highly specific in identifying goals, current resources and practices that will help achieve your project. I will provide guidance around which approaches may support your goals and you will focus on prioritizing the changes you would like to see in your life. For some clients, the evaluation period may be longer than one or two sessions. One on One Sessions may last 60-120 minutes. When we contract, we will decide which of the three paths of treatment we are walking:
NEW!! Beginning in April 2021, I will be offering intensive sessions for any of the above paths or a combination of them the last week of each month. You need not already be a client to participate in an intensive, however, depending on the nature of the work, already having a therapist you regularly work with may be a condition of proceeding. What will this look like? Ranging in length from 3 hours to 5 days, Intensives involve a combination of hands on work, and integration time wandering outside, reflecting, journalling, sleeping, and walking. The work may involve EMDR memory reprocessing, hands on energy medicine, resourcing techniques or more expressive arts based work to explore your depths. Day long work is not overnight but generally goes from 10-5 with several long breaks including an hour long lunch. Complete a "contact me" to learn more about this option. I am beginning to book now! PSYCHOTHERAPY APPROACHES Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) EMDR is the only evidence based treatment for addressing both single incident and chronic traumatic experiences. People who undergo EMDR treatment doubly benefit in that it not only reduces the stress associated with overwhelming experiences, it also shifts underlying negative views about the self toward more positive and affirming beliefs, such as I am innocent, good or okay as I am. EMDR utilizes the natural healing ability of your body. After a thorough assessment, you will be asked specific questions about a particular disturbing memory. Bilateral stimulation similar to the eye movements experienced during REM sleep, will be recreated during the session through either back and forth eye movements or other "tapping" techniques to stimulate a right/left pattern. The tapping will last for a short while and then stop. You will then be asked to report back on the experiences you have had during each of these sets of bilateral stimulation. Experiences during a session may include changes in thoughts, images and feelings. With repeated sets of bilateral stimulation, the memory tends to change in such a way that it loses its painful intensity and simply becomes a neutral memory of an event in the past. Other associated memories may also heal at the same time. This linking of related memories can lead to a dramatic and rapid improvement in many aspects of your life. Internal Family Systems (IFS) Based on the idea, that inside each of us is "family" of sub personalities each with their own perspective and needs. These sub personalities represent various ages, developmental stages, values and qualities. Often times, when we feel stuck, depressed or anxious it is a result of two more sub personalities in conflict with each other: an inner conflict. IFS techniques allow us to negotiate and transform relationships between parts of selves with compassion and skill. ~ ~ ~ THE TARA APPROACH: ENERGY MEDICINE/NERVOUS SYSTEM WORK Also known as, Jin Shin TARA, The TARA Approach was developed by Dr. Stephanie Mines, a neuroscientist and student of Jin Shin Jyustu. The TARA approach is a unique system that interconnects the skillful use of attachment language, deep understandings of neuroscience and the energy map of the ordinary and extraordinary meridians of the human body. The system is an applied touch energy medicine that directly intervenes at the nervous system level to support nervous system resilience and balance, build organ health and support the healthiest expression of you! Sessions are offered 1:1, in a group setting, and also in a 3-5 day intensive style designed to address a body/mind crisis, chronic health conditions and a deep dive into the material that influencing your life right now. TARA Approach 1:1 treatments last about an hour. This gentle art is practiced by placing the fingertips (over clothing) on designated pathways, to restore and harmonize an energy "flow." During each session, self-help techniques will be offered for home use. Positive changes that are most common include: relaxation and well-being to body & spirit, increased stress resilience, better coping, improved mood, relief from pain, and increase in mental and physical energy. ~ ~ ~ SOUL COMPANION AND GUIDE In our highly material and logical culture, that which is soulful, meaningful and even ineffable is hardly acknowledged. For many, whether adolescent or adult, life can appear empty and pointless. Suffering can feel meaningless. However, thousands of years of wisdom traditions have shown us the way to animate our lives and our relationships. To do so, is to take a journey of initiation, one in which we are brave enough to look at what has been hidden within us and discover the treasures and gifts that it is has been blocking! Embark on this path and you will look doubly at everything, knowing an invitation or opportunity awaits in every moment. Together you and I can walk this path. There are maps, often missing pieces and hard to read. As your companion I may suggest we pull out the map, light a lantern or go to higher ground to gain perspective. All these metaphoric steps play a role in encountering the incredible mystery that you are! It would be honor to walk at your side and guide as needed to be able to witness your coming back to full life! After a session, you may feel as though your heart has opened wide, that you have gained greater perspective, a sense of meaning or purpose behind even the most troubling of experiences, or the peace that comes with having a glimpse of your place in the world. |
